Project Title: The Folkloric Children’s Dance Program
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Ecuadorian American Cultural Center (EACC) offers folkloric dance classes to children and adolescents between the ages of 6 and 14 through the Children’s Dance Program. This program offers participants the opportunity to experience the rich diversity of Ecuadorian culture through dance, art and music. In addition to the dance component, the classes teach children about the history and culture of the different communities that exist in Ecuador. The educational component includes workshops, arts and crafts, groups projects, guest speakers, and field trips. <\/p>\n
Classes are offered on a sliding scale so that they are accessible to all with wardrobe and other materials provided at no cost. The Center provides various performance opportunities to the children so they can showcase what they have learned. For example, they participate in recitals at the conclusion of the spring and winter cycles, and in events organized by the Ecuadorian Consulate and other community organizations. The Center enrolls between 60-100 students annually in this program.<\/p>\n
Children\u2019s Folkloric Dance serves a diverse group of local children from many backgrounds and cultures and many program participants are immigrants to the U.S. from Ecuador. For children adjusting to life in a new place, the program provides a unique opportunity to connect to their heritage and culture while simultaneously fostering connection to new friends in a new place. For first, second and third generation Ecuadorian American, this program offers the opportunity to be immersed in the culture that shaped their parents, grandparents and ancestors, strengthening family connections and broadening horizons. These connections are at the heart of the program, ensuring the sense of belonging that is so necessary for children to thrive, flourish and reach their fullest potential, firmly rooted and ready to grow.\n<\/p>\n
