Project Title: Life Skills for Youth\u2019s 2025 Summer Academy
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Life Skills for Youth (LSY) is an afterschool and summer program located in southwest Little Rock, Arkansas. Our mission is to mentor, equip, and empower youth to pursue a greater purpose for themselves and their community. While we also provide math and literacy tutoring, the core of LSY programming is teaching youth important life skills. For example, LSY is known nationally for its cutting-edge ATM (Anger, Time and Money) Management program that teaches youth how to manage emotions, plan time, and handle money responsibly. Since it was founded in 2007, LSY has helped empower over 3,800 youth, served over 1.5 million healthy meals and snacks, and touched the lives of countless families. <\/p>\n
We respectfully request a $10,000 grant from the Hermanowski Foundation to fund our 2025 Summer Academy, a 10-week summer program that allows students in grades K-12 to receive tutoring in math and literacy, participate in STEAM and other enrichment activities, go on field trips, and have fun in a safe and caring environment. Over 90 percent of our summer program participants attend low-income Title I schools during the school year, and their families have few affordable options where their kids can go during the summer months. <\/p>\n
Each morning, certified teachers lead classes in math and literacy. In the afternoon, youth move into STEM and Spanish classes, alternating with scheduled field trips that support academic discovery and exploration. Breakfast, lunch, and snacks are served each day. <\/p>\n
LSY is working to raise almost $300,000 for next year\u2019s Summer Academy. A $10,000 grant from the Hermanowski Foundation would help cover the cost of one coach and one parent coordinator. We would love to partner with you in closing the summer learning gap and ensuring that our students are prepared to succeed when school resumes in the fall.<\/p>\n
