Project Title: Global Arts for Global Kids
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
The New York City Borough of Queens is the nation\u2019s most diverse county. At Flushing Town Hall we celebrate this as the area\u2019s leading presenter of global arts programs, which include our Global Arts for Global Kids: Arts Education, Arts Equity program. Through this program we create opportunities for thousands of talented students from public schools in some of the City\u2019s most underserved communities to enjoy student centered in school arts education. <\/p>\n
The key elements of our arts education program are: <\/p>\n
\u2022\tSchool Performance Series, which since its inception, this program has offered thousands of students their first experience of a professional live performance\u2014an experience whose value has multiplied many times post-shutdown. <\/p>\n
\u2022\tIn School Residencies, which over 10 weeks of sequential, project-based learning with one teaching artist develop students\u2019 creativity and powers of self-expression while also deepening understanding of their and their fellow students\u2019 cultures. <\/p>\n
\u2022\tWorkshops and Assemblies which are one-time events that feature a teaching artist who works with a group of up to 30 students to introduce them to a culturally relevant art form as well as a professional performance for school-wide audiences. <\/p>\n
One of the great advantages enjoyed by our students is their rich cultural heritages, however there is frequently limited cross-cultural understanding, and this is something we are well positioned to address. With the support of the Hermanowski Family Foundation, we will be able to deepen classroom learning and family engagement, celebrate our communities\u2019 cultures and encourage cross cultural understanding, create opportunities for self-expression, and build students\u2019 cultural self-confidence while helping reduce the achievement gap that many of them face.\n<\/p>\n
