They span 12-weeks to a full year, and take place in schools that either qualify as Title 1, or where there are a large percentage of low-income and high needs students (as defined by the MA Dept of Education). We work hard to make regular arts access a reality for communities who want to prioritize arts education but experience greater barriers to the arts due to lack of funding. One school principal commented that the strength of AFLMA’s arts programming is its flexibility. When schools reach out to us, we collaborate with each site partner to design a program that works for them, their budget, and their learning goals, as opposed to coming to a school with a pre planned program that may or not fit with their school structure. Our ability to do so is dependent on the funding we are able to raise, and how much the school or learning center is able to contribute.

What is particularly unique about our programming is that our artists span multiple genres- dance, music, storytelling, theater, media arts, and visual art. We hire teaching artists who are experienced working with, and reflect the cultures of the population they are teaching, and we offer resources and training to help them identify learning differences in order to create accommodation strategies. They are asked to track their progress and seek help as needed. In addition, we also have a yearly cohort of AFLMA artists participating in trauma-informed teaching trainings run by Young Audiences Arts for Learning National. EAA residencies culminate in confidence building final performances or exhibitions where students proudly share their new creative skills with their community.

Total Project Budget: $315,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): DCU for Kids: $5,000, Secured for FY 25 Liberty Mutual Foundation: $35,000, Secured for FY 25 Ramsey McCluskey Family Foundation: $7,500, Secured for FY 25 Henry Niles Foundation: $2,500, Secured for FY 25 Deborah Munroe Noonan: $15,000, Secured for FY 25 YA National Grant- RAISE: $65,000, Secured for FY 25 EdVestors: $16,500, Pending, past funder Johnson Family Foundation: $25,000, Pending, past funder The Peabody Foundation: $15,000, Pending, past funder Bushrod Campbell and Adah Hall: $10,000, will apply, past funder Eastern Bank Foundation: $50,000, will apply, past funder Eugene Fay Trust: $5,000, will apply, past funder Adelard A. and Valeda Lea Roy Foundation: $3,000, will apply, past funder TJX: $10,000, will apply, past funder

Project Duration: EAA Residencies span from 12 weeks to a full year
Geographical Area Served: Massachusetts, particularly low income communities in Boston and Massachusetts Gateway Cities
Age Group To Be Served: PreK-12

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Ms.
Contact First Name: Rachel
Contact Last Name: Flood Page
Contact Title: Operations Manager
Contact Phone: 617-629-9262 x306
Contact Email: rfloodpage@artsforlearningma.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Arts for Learning Massachusetts Legal Name (if Different): Arts for Learning Massachusetts, Inc.
