PowerUP Scholarship Fund, established in 2017, is committed to empowering disadvantaged and special needs youth through martial arts mentorship, emphasizing self-regulation, resilience, and respect. Collaborating with independent business owners (senseis) and organizations, PowerUP delivers martial arts classes directly to underserved students, providing vital mentoring and support alongside physical training. Instructors are compensated based on student attendance, fostering community engagement and economic empowerment. With a goal of reaching 1,300 scholars by year-end, PowerUP prioritizes personalized instructor-student matches and carefully tracks academic and social-emotional progress.<\/p>\n
At PowerUP, our focus extends beyond merely offering martial arts classes to underserved youth. We strive to be more than just a program; we are dedicated mentors and advocates for our students. Through our initiatives, we not only provide opportunities for youth who would otherwise lack access to such classes but also serve as positive role models, offering guidance, support, and encouragement. Our organization is committed to consistently looking out for our students, providing resources, mentorship, and a nurturing environment where they can thrive. By fostering a sense of community and empowerment, we empower our students to reach their full potential both inside and outside the dojo.<\/p>\n
To pioneer our mission, we’re requesting a $10,000 grant from the Hermanowski Family Foundation to pilot a martial arts program in Austin, TX, benefiting up to 20 students in 2024. Our innovative approach eliminates overhead and equipment costs, focusing solely on recruiting an experienced sensei committed to mentorship and community engagement. Funds will exclusively support instructor compensation, ensuring top-quality instruction without additional financial burdens. Moreover, resources will be allocated to marketing efforts to attract students from local communities, schools, and centers. A portion of the grant will also be reserved for scholarships or financial aid, guaranteeing accessibility for all students. With this streamlined strategy, we aim to launch a successful pilot program, empowering Austin’s youth through martial arts mentorship and fostering personal growth without unnecessary expenses.<\/p>\n
