Real Champions, Inc. exists to become trusted advocates for children by establishing long-term relationships that lead to greater opportunities in life, school, and work. We empower students to escape the cycle of generational poverty by providing full-time, professional mentors, starting in kindergarten and remaining through high school graduation. Each child is partnered with a dedicated Advocate Mentor, who accompanies the student and family for the duration of his\/her K-12 academic career. Advocate Mentors meet weekly with their mentees all year long, even during school breaks. Advocate Mentors work with both the students and their families, facilitating collaboration and advocating for student success in and out of the classroom. They also provide various experiential learning opportunities that underserved children may not have otherwise, such as field trips to the aquarium, theater, or library. Furthermore, Advocate Mentors come alongside the family to ensure that tangible needs are met. This holistic approach provides each child not only with the skills and resources needed to break the cycle of generational poverty, but also with the hope of a brighter future.<\/p>\n
We launched our pilot cohort of 24 children in Jasper County in January 2021. Three years later, our program has nearly doubled in size and has an additional site in Charleston County. We are currently serving 51 children and their families, totaling approximately 260 individuals.<\/p>\n

Other Funding
\nSources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Approximately 200 individual donors and 20 business partners contribute to funding our program each year. Additionally, we receive numerous grants from the state of South Carolina and from foundations, such as The Roger Slater Foundation and Community Foundation of the Lowcountry, which guarantee our ability to stay longer with our children. Further financial details, including specific sources of income and expenses, are available upon request.<\/p>\n
