Holistic Life Foundation (HLF) improves the social-emotional, academic, and mental health of low-income BIPOC underserved communities through a comprehensive approach to yoga, mindfulness, trauma-informed care, youth development, and self-care. Founded as a BIPOC-led nonprofit in Baltimore in 2001, our workshops nurture wellness in schools, recreation centers, group homes, drug treatment centers, homeless shelters, mental crisis facilities, and senior centers. Founders Ali Smith, Atman Smith, and Andres Gonzalez began HLF teaching yoga and mindfulness practices to at-risk youth in their community. HLF has provided over 50,000 hours of yoga and mindfulness training to over 100,000 students from 100 schools nationwide.
\nOur Mindful Moment Program is a whole school intervention that integrates mindfulness, yoga, and meditation practices into the school day for students, teachers, and staff. Mindful Moment gives preK-12th grade students the age-appropriate skills and emotional capacity to navigate life\u2019s transitions and choices in healthy ways. The program provides a safe space for students who need to cool down and regain control of their emotions and to improve students\u2019 mental health.
\nSince 2001, HLF has worked with over 5,000 students a week in Baltimore City Public Schools (BCPS). In BCPS our Mindful Moment Program has reduced suspensions and fights, healed trauma, and demonstrated positive changes in attendance, GPA, and overall school climate. In recent years we have provided services in Indiana, Pennsylvania, Idaho, the Akwesasne Mohawk Territory, New York State, Kentucky, Dorchester County (MD), New Orleans, and Canada. The national news coverage following our \u201cTurning Detention into Meditation\u201d videos going viral brought us to the attention of our partner, The Clinton Foundation, and in 2022 we made a multi-year Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) commitment to implement Mindful Moment programming in Chicago, Buffalo, Philadelphia, Milwaukee, and Denver. HLF is seeking funding for CGI expansion efforts.\n<\/p>\n
