Project Title: NICU Family Care and Connections Program at Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Today is a Good Day\u2019s mission is to provide hope and build community through personal and financial support for families who experience the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Our goal is to lessen stress and increase family and infant well-being, resulting in hope for the future.\u202f All of our programs positively affect the health and wellness of both the parents and their children in the short- and long-term. The practical experience of NICU families reinforces what research tells us – parents have needs that, if not addressed, can have a profound impact on their child\u2019s future. For example, \u201cThe event could interfere with their transitions into parenthood: the adverse medical condition of their baby prevents parents from taking care immediately of their newborn child.\u201d (Axelin, et al., 1999)<\/p>\n
TIAGD contributes to a strong start for babies in the NICU by supporting those closest to them. <\/p>\n
This project will deepen our hospital partnership with Virtua Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital. It will allow us to provide the following programs to the NICU families: <\/p>\n
Care Packages: The first touch point for NICU families, care packages let families know they are not alone. These include personalized messaging, One Day at a Time Bracelets, Today Journal, On the Night You Were Born Book, KicKee Pants Swaddle Set, a Set of Bonding Squares (to help families bond with their infants through scent), Milestone\/Resource cards, NICU family stories and other essentials.<\/p>\n
Breast Milk Coolers: A new offering for NICU families, coolers allow NICU families to pump at home and bring breast milk to the hospital the next day for their baby, ensuring receipt of the nutrients desperately needed during this time.\u202f <\/p>\n
Preemie Milestone Shirts: We developed gender-neutral clothing to give the baby when they are able to wear clothes for the first time. <\/p>\n

GSK IMPACT Awards \u2013 Potential \u2013 $50,000. Bray Family Foundation \u2013 Potential – $5,000.<\/p>\n
