Led by BIPOC youth from their communities who understand their challenges, New Voices consists of 1) an intensive 6-week Summer Climate Justice Leadership Academy for 25+ low-income BIPOC high school students aged 14-18 from heavily impacted Bay Area communities and 2) a School-Year Fellowship program for 8+ Academy graduates. During the Summer Academy, youth have a chance to get out into their communities and explore pressing environmental issues through nature-based STEAM driven hands-on outdoor learning labs (50%) in collaboration with local partners complemented by group workshops and discussion (50 %); taking 7 one-day field trips and a 2-day overnight camping trip to local green spaces and wild lands where youth get a chance to leave their day to day lives, unplug from screens, have fun, frolic in nature, and observe wildlife while developing new skills, building meaningful relationships, and having an experience of a lifetime. In the school year, motivated participants continue as Fellows, deepening their engagement through independent projects and externships focused on learning and experiences made in the Summer. Each Fellow meets weekly to share information and work on group efforts. Projects engage community members in impactful activities aimed at improving their local environment, from designing plans for more green infrastructure to addressing air quality and climate change. Externships provide real-world exposure, preparing youth for successful career paths. Your support enables underserved Bay Area youth to access transformative outdoor experiences and leadership opportunities, fostering a more equitable future.

Total Project Budget: 605,631

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Committed/ anticipated funders for the program include: ● Port of Oakland: $5,000 (confirmed) ● Pape Family Foundation: $10,000 (potential) ● East Bay Community Foundation: $25,000 (potential) ● U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: $100,000 (confirmed) ● California Air Resources Board: $100,000 (confirmed) ● California Coastal Conservancy: $105,000 (confirmed) ● Sandia National Laboratory $25,000 (potential) ●California Natural Resource Agency $150,000 (confirmed)

Project Duration: one year
Geographical Area Served: Youth from historically disenfranchised frontline communities in the Bay Area, specifically Alameda, San Francisco, and Contra Costa County (Oakland where the program has run for 15 years and recently the communities of Richmond, Pittsburg, Vallejo and Antioch), falling within the boundaries of recognized DACs or adjacent areas.
Age Group To Be Served: Low-income BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth high school students aged 14-18

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Ms
Contact First Name: Amy
Contact Last Name: Holland
Contact Title: Senior Manager of Institutional Giving
Contact Phone: 510.658.0702
Contact Email: aholland@rosefdn.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Rose Foundation for Communities and the Environment Legal Name (if Different): N/A Also Known As: N/A Mailing Address: 201 4th Street, Suite 102 City: Oakland State: CA Postal Code: 94607-4369 Main Phone: 510.658.0702 Main Fax: 510.658.0732 Organization Website: www.rosefdn.org Employer ID Number: 94-3179772 Organization Tax Status: 501(c) […]

[3

post-5567","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-grants
["GET
