ACCEL\u2019s mission is to provide exceptional educational, behavioral, therapeutic, and vocational programs to individuals who have special needs and developmental disabilities, to give them the necessary skills to learn, work, and live successfully with dignity and independence. <\/p>\n
Imagine 11-year-old Zack, who has a sensory processing disorder that makes it so he is hypersensitive to specific textures. Even sitting in a regular school chair feels like needles on Zack’s skin, making it hard for him to focus in the classroom. Or Sarah, age 8, who does not have the fine motor skills to draw using markers. Imagine teaching Bobby, a student who has a visual impairment and an autism diagnosis.<\/p>\n
After 40 years of observation, hands-on work, and therapy with thousands of children who have developmental disabilities, we know ACCEL students are not able to successfully learn with traditional teaching materials.<\/p>\n
Adaptive Education meets the learning needs of children who have severe disabilities by adapting, supplementing, and often replacing commercial materials. Materials are explicitly designed for each student’s needs, an incredibly time-intensive process.<\/p>\n
The program does everything, such as:
\n–\tPurchasing items such as a chair that works for students like Zack or a device for students like Sarah to hold markers. Now, they can finally sit comfortably and draw a picture for their mom.
\n–\tCompletely revamping a book to make literacy accessible to a child who has a visual impairment or is blind, allowing students like Bobby to learn and access literacy through touch. Now Bobby finally understands why his classmates love the new Dav Pilkey book so much!<\/p>\n
Adaptive equipment is instantly life-changing. Annually, 260 K-12 children benefit from this year-round tailored learning support, guaranteeing every child can engage with learning. Your support means more of these underserved students get adaptive equipment and start their learning journey faster!<\/p>\n
