Project Title: After School Program
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
ACTCC is the only Community Center in Hampton County. Although the public school has an after school program, they are at capacity, and many children are turned away. ACTCC provides after school programming for children ages 6-18, M-F (2:00 until 5:00pm) during the school year. The children are accepted on a first come basis and the after school program is a "Pay what your Can" with many not financially able to pay any tuition at all. We provide homework assistance, mentoring and a safe place for students to thrive after-school hours while their parents are still at work. Each child has their own Chromebook. Students use both IXL and Zearn daily. IXL is a South Carolina standard-based computer software program that helps with reading, math, social studies and science. Zearn is a comprehensive K-12 curriculum software program for math that uses visual models, pictures, and real-life examples to help students develop sound math skills. We also play Math Bingo and imaginative games to support learning. Students have dedicated reading time everyday, either peer to peer, shared and\/or independently.<\/p>\n

\nSources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Department of Juvenile Justice: Since 2021, DJJ has awarded the Center $15,000 annually to support our programming and provided Chromebooks for each student that attends the Center. Hampton County local DJJ employees also present workshops to our students throughout the year. The city of Varnville donates the space for our Community Center. 2024 funding includes the Beaufort Fund, National Mentoring program, Dominion Energy, the Nora Roberts Foundation, Food Lion, Comcast. <\/p>\n
