Project Title: The Multicultural Teacher Training Program (MTTP)

The Multicultural Teacher Training Program (MTTP) is a crucial initiative aimed at preparing youth ages 18-21 for a career as culturally competent classroom instructors and teachers. The transition phase from student to student-teacher is a pivotal opportunity to adequately prepare Black youth to become exceptional teachers who serve marginalized communities of color. WCWMAD aims to equip student-teachers with the skills and confidence needed to successfully navigate their careers.<\/p>\n
MTTP will provide aspiring teachers with 480 hours of hands-on learning experiences that will build a foundation for incomparable, compassionate, qualified teachers. Why Can\u2019t We Make a Difference, through the MTTP, represents a learning community of professionals who support individuals interested in shaping the future of marginalized youth through teaching. The three primary goals of the program are to:
\n\u2022\tincrease the number of multicultural teachers who are adequately equipped to provide instruction to diverse population within marginalized regions of Los Angeles
\n\u2022\tprepare a diverse teaching force of instructors who are prepared to teach, especially in high-need areas such as mathematics, science, special education, and bilingual education
\n\u2022\tprovide ongoing, high-quality support to aspiring teachers on their path to earning their teaching credential
\n\u2022\tprepare teachers for the unique needs and rigors of educating marginalized youth of color<\/p>\n
Teacher preparation plays an important role in teacher success (Bacharach et al., 2010). Research indicates that teachers who are well prepared and trained in the communities they will work have the greatest influence on student achievement (Wilson et al., 2001). Ensuring teacher success and preparation ensures that students have a higher level of opportunity for academic success. The MTTP provides mentorship\/coaching, classroom experience, curriculum development training, and ongoing professional development to enhances and build on the participant\u2019s experiences. The goal is for the MTTP participants to become experts in providing instruction to underserved populations.\n<\/p>\n
