Project Title: My Relationship with mom and dad matters
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
My relationship with mom and dad matters is a series of eight workshops with the focus of communication, healthy choices, social-emotional control, the five love languages, boundaries, self-care, intimacy building skills and etiquette. At each of these workshops, parents are required to attend with their children. We begin each workshop with an icebreaker and then we have an open dialogue on the topic of choice. We then incorporate an interactive activity that bridges the topic of choice with an example by role playing and relationship building. To conclude our workshop, we have a community circle where participants can share positive feedback from the evening. At the end of the eight-week workshop our hopes are that the mothers and their sons and the fathers and their daughter will create a more secure and healthy bond.
\nOther ways that we celebrate the mother and son, and father and daughter relationship is we have a kickball tournament and an annual dance. The kickball tournament adds excitement and friendly competition. What we enjoy most is seeing the fathers encourage their daughters and mothers encouraging their sons. The winning team receives a championship trophy, and we conclude our tournament with a family picnic. At our annual family dance, we have the families dress like twins. Dancing not only incorporates physical health, but we see emotional health increase as well. The smiles, the laughs and lifelong memories created keep families coming back. At the annual dance the families can take pictures, dance, eat and each mother and daughter gets a corsage, and each father and son gets a boutonniere. Due to our partnership with the Milwaukee Bucks, Bango the Milwaukee Bucks mascot, comes to our dance and gives out awards to parents and the children.\n<\/p>\n
