Project Title: Operation School Bell
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Mission: \u201cAssistance League volunteers transform the lives of children through philanthropic community programs.\u201d We strive to make sure essential needs are met in our community and families flourish.<\/p>\n
We are seeking $10,000 support for our signature program, Operation School Bell (OSB), and the one where we positively impact the most youth. Last year we dressed 724 school-aged students and spent $93,500. Next year, our goal is to dress 800 students.
\n Twice a year, OSB provides new school-appropriate clothing to low-income, disadvantaged, at-risk children identified by school counselors and with parent\/guardian permission. Elementary school students are measured by ALCP’s volunteers. Colors\/Styles, Likes\/Dislikes are discussed with each child. Then volunteers shop and return to the school with two sets of new jeans, and shirts, along with underwear\/socks, a jacket\/hoodie, and a pair of shoes. Middle and High school students shop one-on-one with a volunteer at pre-arranged times at local retailers with whom ALCP has developed relationships with.<\/p>\n
Studies indicate that children who are appropriately attired interact better with their peers, have more self-confidence, and perform better academically.<\/p>\n
