Project Title: The Confidence Suite: Designing a Curriculum to Elevate Girls’ Confidence and Well-being
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Girls on the Run International (GOTRI) shares the Hermanowski Family Foundation’s mission to improve and transform the lives of youth across the United States. GOTRI is a nationally recognized leader in physical activity-based, positive youth development programming, with a mission of inspiring girls to be joyful, healthy, and confident using a fun, experience-based curriculum that creatively integrates running. For over 25 years, the organization has diligently and intentionally created programming for girls in 3rd-8th grade that strengthens the vision of a world where every girl knows and activates her limitless potential and is free to boldly pursue her dreams. <\/p>\n
Recent studies have highlighted a concerning decline in girls’ mental health and physical activity levels. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that three in five U.S. teen girls felt persistently sad or hopeless in 2021, with only 24% of 6- to 17-year-olds participating in at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day. <\/p>\n
GOTRI addresses these mental health concerns as the only national physical activity-based, positive youth development program with a research-based curriculum, trained coaches, and a commitment to serving all girls. The organization is creating a new suite of curricula, the Confidence Suite, designed to reach girls at a critical age and strengthen their confidence. This suite aims to increase relevancy to current issues girls are facing, provide impactful lessons promoting new social-emotional learning skillsets, and elevate the focus on inclusion, diversity, equity, and access (IDEA). <\/p>\n
By updating existing curricula to meet these critical challenges, GOTRI ensures that participants develop social-emotional skills such as managing emotions, intentional decision-making, helping others, and resolving conflict. These skills promote self-respect, self-efficacy, and resiliency among participants, empowering them to successfully navigate life challenges long after the program’s conclusion.<\/p>\n
