Low & middle-income families whose child is battling cancer are at high risk for homelessness. The Giving Help Family Support Program assists with rent or mortgage support. It is hard to watch a child suffer with cancer, but unthinkable that they should also become homeless at this critical time. Not only must families cope with the overwhelming fear that they could lose their child, but they also face major financial challenges of very high medical costs & a loss of income from caring for a sick child.
\nTo help families cope with financial hardship, the Giving Help Financial Support Program provides relief towards basic needs such as housing, transportation, medication, groceries, & other daily living necessities. POST will pay one bill in each category (rent\/mortgage, utilities, transportation) per calendar year. This program also includes our Preventing Homelessness & Food Insecurity for Children Battling Cancer Initiative, as we established an onsite food pantry for immediate needs. This is supplemented by giving families gift cards to buy groceries.
\nThe entirety of this program strives to prevent homelessness & hunger in local children battling cancer, ensuring that 100% of the families we serve – especially those at greatest risk of facing eviction, whose child is having a bone marrow transplant, or single parents – have safe housing, enough food to eat, & will never have to choose between lifesaving medication or paying for basic needs. <\/p>\n
