Project Title: The Center for Miracles Clinic for Abused and Neglected Children
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Since 2006, the Center for Miracles, serves children in the who have experienced physical, emotional or sexual abuse or neglect. This clinic is the only of its kind in a hospital\/medical setting, overseen by the only board-certified pediatric child abuse physicians in our region. The Center serves within Region 08 of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services covering an expansive network of 28 counties. In calendar year 2023, the Center for Miracles treated or reviewed the cases of 3,525 abused and
\nneglected children. The Center works to ensure that the most vulnerable children – those too young or too scared to speak for themselves – are appropriately addressed in a hospital clinic setting for signs of maltreatment or with injuries or conditions that may be caused by abuse or neglect.
\nThe care and treatment of abused and neglected children at the Center is a highly collaborative process for each child’s recovery. Every child receives a treatment plan that is reviewed weekly. The Center works with parents and guardians to guide them through the treatment program and process to ensure the child has a supportive
\nenvironment. The center receives referrals and collaborates with groups including Child Protective Services, San Antonio Police Department, and the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. Outcomes are measured based upon the number of
\nchildren who are helped to move from the trauma of an abusive or neglectful situation, through criminal prosecution when directed by law enforcement, or into therapy for long-term recovery. Funds will support the clinic staff
\nfor the 2024-2025 year. We rely on philanthropy to provide the funds necessary to sustain this program. In 2021, the Texas legislative session’s decision to eliminate funding for the 11 child abuse centers across Texas, has caused an annual funding reduction of $300,000 for the Center.\n<\/p>\n
