Project Title: SEL Through the Arts for After School Students With\/Without Disabilities
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
AYUDA needs to add a staff member with qualifications in social emotional learning through the arts for after school teens with\/without disabilities. AYUDA hosts three times a week an afterschool and for high school students with\/without disabilities. The program has one staff that provides the services and the ratio is 1 staff 25 youths. The disabilities that our participants are: down syndrome, autism, cerebral paralysis, anxiety, bi polar disorder, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), mobility disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, speech and language condition, among other. For people with learning disabilities, art therapy offers an opportunity for self-expression. Art can be a way to communicate for people who find it hard to express their thoughts and feelings verbally. Adding art social\/emotional therapy by way of this funding in our after school programs we will be able to offer a creative and enjoyable way to communicate without restrictions, without worries of being judged as there is no such thing as failing when youths create art. This process will give our participants a sense of accomplishment and build their self-confidence. During the life of the grant 50 Youth will benefit each semester. The Program will reach 100 children per year. The geographical area is Miami Beach, our participants come from 6 different public schools across in zip codes 33139, 33140, 33141.<\/p>\n
