Hood Kiwanis Camp in Oregon provides inclusive outdoor experiences for individuals with developmental disabilities. With a 1:1 counselor-camper ratio, our “traditional” camp program caters to diverse needs, fostering independence and offering families respite. Beyond the eight-week summer program, we host Fall and Winter Retreats, a Family Camp, and partnered with the Muscular Dystrophy Association for a family camp. Our capacity for kid week is 56 campers and in 2023, we served 39 kids. We are on our way to getting back to capacity after ensuring we are adequately staffed, for the campers to be supported. Accessibility is a priority, with wheelchair-friendly trails and adaptive equipment ensuring all campers can participate. Camp activities include fishing, ropes course, pool fun, horseback riding, whitewater rafting, campfire, and dancing. Our focus on equity and inclusion involves student counselors from Portland State University, fostering friendships, dispelling misperceptions, and positively impacting lives. In an area where individuals with developmental disabilities lack recreational opportunities, Mt. Hood Kiwanis Camp strives to bridge the gap.
Project Kid Week is to help us fund our staffing salaries to provide the most success for the week. Kid week requires extra behavior support and counselors to give extra breaks and support our staff and campers. We see that for most of the kids, it is their first time away from home, families are still fully figuring out their disabilities, and medications, and kids have more energy! We strive for the utmost equity and inclusion to meet all of our campers where their needs are to provide an empowering, independence focused, and fun camp experience.

Total Project Budget: $17,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): The execution of this program hinges on securing the necessary funds. As a non-profit dedicated to serving the community, our primary financial support comes from grants. The sustainability of our programs and revenue relies significantly on grant funding. We actively seek out and apply for grants to ensure the optimal functioning of our organization. Throughout the year, we engage in ongoing efforts, utilizing a database to identify suitable grant opportunities. We meticulously assess each opportunity, aligning it with our mission and projects. This involves thorough research into the criteria, past giving history, and priorities of potential funders, culminating in the development of compelling proposals. These endeavors are vital for securing funding to sustain our programming, undertake projects, implement upgrades, overall general operating expenses, and manage utilities. With that being said, we will be seeking funding every year from funders.

Project Duration: 1 week in June 2024
Geographical Area Served: Pacific Northwest, Oregon and Washington states
Age Group To Be Served: 12-18

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Ms.
Contact First Name: Savannah
Contact Last Name: Buck
Contact Title: Assistant Development & Communications Director
Contact Phone: 971-230-2930
Contact Email: savannah@mhkc.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Mt.
