In Jacob\u2019s Shoes (IJS) has been providing basic necessities (shoes, backpacks, school supplies, & athletic gear) to local children since 2009. Our provision of services specifically targets children who are homeless\/at-risk of becoming homeless, those living in poverty, on reduced\/free lunch at area schools, living in homeless shelters, and\/or living within the foster care system. In Jacob\u2019s Shoes services are wholly inclusive and we do not discriminate based on race, color, religion, abilities, national and ethnic origin, or gender or for any reason. Necessities are provided to the described population by requests from schools, shelters, charities, and various other social service organizations and agencies as well as through public back-to-school events and campaigns. Since inception, we have proudly provided 236,000 pairs of shoes, 65,000 socks, and 12,000 backpacks (with school supplies) to local children living in poverty, suffering from displacement, and who are in the greatest need.
\nThere are children in our area who have issues with absences and show up late to school because they do not have adequate shoes or, in some cases, must share shoes. There are many more wearing shoes that don\u2019t fit or have missing\/detached soles. They are cruelly teased because their shoes are old, dirty & torn.
\nIn Jacob\u2019s Shoes receives in-kind donations of gently worn shoes which our volunteers collect, clean, & restore to pristine condition & then we supplement these with purchased shoes. Shoes & backpacks are distributed via requests made by schools, shelters, charities & social service agencies working directly with our target population. Requested items are ready for pick-up by the school\/agency within one to five days. Representatives from the schools & agencies deliver the shoes to the children for whom the request was made. The process is fast, efficient & anonymous, saving the child from unnecessary embarrassment.\n<\/p>\n
