Project Title: Out of the Box Strings
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
The \u201cOut of the Box Strings\u201d Project is a unique project to attract and introduce underserved minority youth to string instruments. Urban Strings Columbus (USC) is requesting $10,000 to fund Master Classes of different musical genres by professionals for youth string musicians. The Master Classes will be conducted by well-trained and credentialed professionals who have a proven record in music instruction in different genres, i.e., classical, sacred, jazz, contemporary, R&B, and hip-hop. The suggested conductors are: 1) Dr. Juliet White Smith, viola chair and professor, the Ohio State University (classical techniques, body care and posture; 2) Dr. Khari Joyner, Head of Strings Department, Baldwin Wallace, Conservatory of Music (classical, sacred music); 3) David Robinson, composer, arranger and founder of Stillwater Youth Orchestra, Atlanta, GA (spirituals, contemporary, hip hop) 4) Jerry Bracey, Jazz Orchestra Conductor, Hampton University, Hampton, VA (jazz, traditional and contemporary) 5) Special Summer program coordinated and conducted by Urban Strings Columbus alumni, introducing beginning youth musicians to strings instruments and music.<\/p>\n
