Project Title: Mindful Mentoring
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Hands That Make A Difference (HTMAD) is a community-based organization located in Harlem, New York, providing youth and young adult programs and support services for their parents\/grandparents.<\/p>\n
Our mission is to provide support services that produce physically, mentally, socially, and academically healthy youth and young adults. We also aim to ensure that their parents and grandparents have the resources to thrive.<\/p>\n
Our holistic and culturally responsive approach increases their capacity to become happy, well-rounded, engaged, civic-minded successful lifelong learners.<\/p>\n
We provide an array of services, including, but not limited to, an After-School Program, a Saturday Program, and a Summer Camp for youth ages 5-12. These programs provide youth development and educational services through homework help, tutoring, computer technology, STEM education, mentoring, music, sports, and a violence prevention program. <\/p>\n
In 2023 we were awarded $50,000 from LISC\/Foot Locker for a Mindful Mentoring program. These funds only supported programming and not operations. With these funds, we purchased curriculums from S.P.A.R.K. (https:\/\/sparkcurriculum.org\/). <\/p>\n
"SPARK Mentoring Programs Speak to the Potential, Ability, and Resilience inside every Kid. Trusted by teachers, counselors, mentors, and mental health professionals, these evidence-based programs create greater academic success, a healthier state of mind, and deeper connections with peers, adults, and communities. Engaging, age-appropriate lessons are proven to increase mental well-being, resilience, emotional development, and social skills such as communication, decision-making, and problem-solving."<\/p>\n
After a successful year of having our students complete this programming, while we will retain our curriculum, we need funds to retain our certified trainer, staff time for this programming, and supplies for a new year of programming. <\/p>\n
