Capper Foundation, deeply rooted in Senator Arthur Capper’s vision since 1920, has evolved into Topeka’s premier provider of specialized pediatric therapy for children with disabilities. Our comprehensive pediatric services, spanning infancy to 21 years, address diverse needs through individualized care, including physical, occupational, and speech-language therapies and adaptive recreation programs. Despite our rich history, the financial burdens faced by families caring for children with disabilities persist. The Pediatric Scholarship Assistance Fund (PSAF) serves as a crucial lifeline, alleviating the financial strain caused by therapeutic services not covered by insurance or other funding sources. The PSAF also bridges the funding gap for program expenses left uncovered by Medicaid, commercial insurance, and private pay. In the last fiscal year, we allocated $884,000 to our PSAF to support families and cover unreimbursed costs, benefiting numerous pediatric families. However, with the increasing number of children diagnosed with disabilities, 1 in 33 according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the demand for our services continues to grow. We anticipate our PSAF need to be approximately $900,000 in FY24. We seek partners like the Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation to join us in this vital endeavor. Your contribution would enable us to support the over 1,000 children we serve annually, empowering them to overcome challenges and realize their true potential. Children with disabilities do not simply outgrow their conditions; they require ongoing support to navigate adulthood.
