SHOWAbility is illuminating a transformative 5-year pilot program with progressive phases that offer not just music and acting experiences, but a profound journey towards self-discovery, empowerment, and dreams realized for 6th-8th graders. “SPOTLIGHT: Music and Acting Enrichment Academy for Middle School Students with Disabilities” challenges stereotypes, transcends limits, and shines a light on the immense potential within every young artist using a curriculum that’s as diverse as the students’ talents.

Led by professional artists; developed by academic professionals; supported by inclusivity coaches, assistive technology, and individualized accommodations; grounded in and utilizing ongoing sound research practices, and teaching advocacy training, SHOWAbility is creating an afterschool/weekend hybrid Saturday school program model of inclusivity in the performing arts that will expand beyond Atlanta into other parts of the state, region, and beyond. Each year, our target group students will expand to include more diverse complexities as we grow our capacity to satisfy more uniquenesses.

Our goal: change the trajectory of disabled students’ lives by empowering them to confidently face down the social inequities in their pathway toward artistic performance. Imagine a world where differences aren’t barriers, but sources of strength.
