Project Title: Future Leaders Of the World (FLOW)

Youth and young adults are at significant risk for experiencing human trafficking, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), suicide prevention and substance abuse. Engaging youth and young adults as peer educators is critical in addressing such health disparities. The literature supports peer education as an effective strategy for shifting attitudes and health behaviors among this priority population. Future Leaders of the World (FLOW) adopts this approach to recruit middle, high school, and college students across S. Florida to become part of the solution to many of these problems\u2019 adults have left them with. Future Leaders Of the World (FLOW) is a new educational tool in empowering youth to combat many of the health disparities that affect themselves and their communities. FLOW\u2019s concept is to work with a group of students, teach them certain health topics and then create powerful short stories. The students then work on script development so their 6-page short gets produced into a professional film. That film- complete with a lesson guide- is then shared with parents, educators and more importantly, their peers. Another key component of FLOW is to prepare each youth participant with a path to employment.
\nThis project is spearheaded by one of our key-partners in Miami-Dade County: On the Move Productions, LLC ( www.onthemoveproductions.com ) who\u2019s mentor and executive producer is David Frankel (pro.imdb.com\/name\/nm0291205\/).
\nFor twenty years, On the Move Productions has invested its time into life-changing projects. Based in South Florida, where many health disparities continue to be a growing problem (ranks 2nd in sex-trafficking cases, ranks 1st in HIV infection rates), On the Move Productions works with its community partners and educators to bring sensitive health topics to the fore front.
\nWe are respectfully requesting funds of $10,000 for a 12-month period. We have funds to shoot the film.<\/p>\n
