Children, Youth & Family Services (CYFS) has served the Charlottesville area for over 90 years. We believe that every child has value and a future rich with possibilities. Our programs are all about kids and giving them the chance to reach their full potential. Under our Ready Kids Framework, CYFS impacts over 6,600 children and families annually.<\/p>\n
The CYFS\\’s Victims of Child Abuse (VOCA) program offers an immediate response to treatment needs of children who have been abused, neglected or exposed to family violence. VOCA provides professional counseling services to children and adolescent victims of child abuse or neglect, and to non-abusing family members, such as parents, siblings, extended family, and foster parents. All services are provided by a VOCA Treatment Specialist, a Masters-level Social Worker or Counselor. <\/p>\n
VOCA lowers the risk of abuse to children in three ways:
\n1.\tBy raising awareness of abuse in a family, the risk of further abuse is thereby reduced;
\n2.\tEarly treatment reduces the risk of destructive behaviors in the future, such as self-harm and substance abuse;
\n3.\tGiven the empirical evidence that untreated abuse victims are likely to become abusers themselves, the incidence of abuse and neglect in future generations is reduced, lowering both personal and societal costs.<\/p>\n
CYFS is committed to measuring our effectiveness and long term impacts on the clients we serve. During FY2013 (July 1, 2012 \u2013 June 30, 2013) VOCA served a total of 113 primary victims of abuse, 78 family members, and provided training to 127 individuals in our community. The goals for the VOCA program are as follows:
\n\u2022\tKids become socially and emotionally healthy and relate well to others.
\n\u2022\tKids experience positive parent\/child and family interaction.
\n\u2022\tKids are not abused or neglected.\n<\/p>\n
