Project Title: Autism Social Skills Group
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Social Skills Group program. Autism R.E.C social skills programs are designed to enhance the social skills in children with autism, led by nationally certified speech therapists. The program provides our children with structured learning activities related to fostering communication skills, supporting learning at home and decision making. Private speech therapy sessions are
\nalso available for the youth who need additional support. To effectively operate this
\nprogram, we use the following curriculum and planned activities:
\nFoundational Skills for Young Children
\nAutism R.E.C. provides three social skills practice opportunities. We Thinkers!, a social
\nthinking program developed by Michelle Garcia Winner, a leading researcher and in social
\nthinking curriculum developer. The program helps children build foundational social
\ncompetencies and essential life skills through stories, lessons, and play activities. The teachings
\nhelp kids better understand themselves and others, develop self-awareness, learn perspective
\ntaking, social problem solving, and supports social-emotional learning, relationship building,
\nclassroom learning, and academic performance. The curriculum is designed to be used with both
\ntypically developing children and those with social emotional learning challenges.
\nZones of Regulation Practice
\nZones of Regulation Practice-Helps children to identify their emotions, develop self-regulation
\nskills, identify triggers, and develop coping strategies using a series of zone colors.
\nChildren will be grouped according to age and communication skill level. Typically developing
\nsiblings will also be welcomed in the group.
\nSocial Skills Group Curriculum and Practice
\nSuperflex is a social thinking curriculum developed by Michele Garcia Winner. The Superflex
\ncurriculum introduces the program participants to a hero character who teaches them to become
\nmore self-aware and conquer social challenges. It provides practice in adapting more effectively
\nand taking control of their own thinking.
\nC. Social Skills group operates as a cohort model for 6 weeks, hosting seven sessions per
\nyear. Cohort ages 2-7 receive 2hrs per session totaling 60 hours of social skills practice.
\nCohort ages 8-18 receive 3hrs per session totaling 90 hours of social skills practice<\/p>\n
