Project Title: Respite Camp
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
This project offers respite for parents and caregivers. It also provides a healthy alternative to individuals with disabilities to improve skills sets and receive much needed adaptive physical activities. Most of the student who attend our program are obese,poor eating habits and lack active physical activity. Some of the medications taken are the side effects of the above. Our program aids in helping to combat some of challenges which will have an adverse impact on the lives of the children,if not addressed. <\/p>\n
We offer camps for children and adults with disabilities. The students receive adaptive art,music,yoga,karate,physical fitness,life skills and social skills. The students take weekly field trips and enjoy community outings. Most of our students need additional support so they would not be able to attend regular camps due to their disabilities of autism,Down syndrome,celebral palsy etc. Our organization has offered the camps for the last 2 years. The camps are offered when school is out(Spring break,summer break,thanksgiving and Christmas).
\nThe camp is Monday-Friday from 9-2.
\nThis allows for parents to have childcare,if working or a respite break. The student also receive life skills and social skills. We also have peer buddies for the students which allows for peer modeling. We offer an inclusive program, which means we accept children with behaviors and nonverbal students due to their disabilities. We are one of the few programs in a 50 mile radius. We also offer discounted rate,scholarships and payment plans, which makes our program very affordable. Our goal is to secure more grants and funding to further offset the cost of the program.
\nWe offer excellent student ratios which is accomplished by paid staff and community volunteers. Some of student require one on one.
\nOur adaptive physical fitness program is also available every Saturday forward hours and the student can participate in adaptive basketball,soccer and cricket. All of the adaptive sports are indoor. <\/p>\n
