PALS provides a safe, trusting environment to foster emotional, social and educational needs of children (ages 5-9) who have been exposed to trauma. This age bracket will be changing in the 2024-2025 school year to include any children between kindergarten and fifth grade who have been determined to benefit from PALS. This shift will allow the goals and structure of PALS to better align with that of the Alamosa School District. PALS engages children who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect through adventure, opportunity, counseling, family network activities and one on one therapeutic practices. PALS supports children referred by Adelante, our homeless shelter, Alamosa County DHS, and local school counselors.<\/p>\n
PALS is a program that initially began as a child care and after-school program. That beginning has evolved and grown over the years into a therapeutic practice with foundations in evidence-based research around the underlying causes of the socio-emotional challenges that face the children who are enrolled in the program. <\/p>\n
We are looking for general support for this year-round program as it looks to increase capacity and also pilot a similar program in nearby Monte Vista in collaboration with the school district.<\/p>\n
