Committed to eradicating the stigma surrounding mental health, the program provides free one-on-one therapy sessions and weekly check-ins for HBCU student athletes, offering them a safe and confidential space to navigate the demands of academic and athletic responsibilities.

In addition to individualized therapy, the program goes beyond traditional approaches by facilitating open discussions on mental health with professional athletes from the NBA and NFL. These engaging sessions provide participants with exclusive insights, creating a relatable and supportive environment. Notably, our last cohort had the privilege of conversing with two professional athletes who share the HBCU experience, fostering a sense of connection and understanding.

By emphasizing accessibility and inclusivity, the HBCU Free Therapy Program aims to empower student athletes to prioritize their mental well-being, equipping them with essential coping skills for both their athletic endeavors and academic pursuits. The ultimate goal is to build resilience, reduce stigma, and create a lasting impact on the mental health landscape within HBCU communities.

Through your support, we aspire to expand and sustain this invaluable program, ensuring that more HBCU student athletes receive the necessary mental health resources to thrive both on and off the field. Join us in making a significant difference in the lives of these young individuals as they navigate the intersection of sports, academics, and mental health and overall well-being.

Total Project Budget: $27,500

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): National Football League Players Association, National Basketball Association, WellsFargo, Ancore Foundation

Project Duration: 3mo
Geographical Area Served: State of Georgia
Age Group To Be Served: 18-21

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Ms.
Contact First Name: Keshia
Contact Last Name: Dennis
Contact Title: Executive Director
Contact Phone: (404) 449-9380
Contact Email: info@TheElephantInTheRoomInc.org

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: The Elephant in the Room Inc Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: Mailing Address: 1266 W Paces Ferry Rd.
