(Growing Readily Available Produce Everywhere)
Project Description:

Project G.R.A.P.E. provides education to youth participants through hands-on gardening activities and lessons based on: understanding where and how grocery stores attain produce, food technology, research areas related to food insecurity and its effects on BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) communities and low-income households, money management and creating a sustainable lifestyle with limited resources. Gardening (farming) and entrepreneurship go hand in hand when understanding how communities partner with businesses to acquire fresh produce and animal products. The world depends on these two concepts for every basic process of food consumption and economics. Developing their skills in gardening, communication and leadership, youth are able to become sustainable individuals which is the main goal of Project G.R.A.P.E. Some examples of activities and lessons that students have participated in include but are not limited to: constructing in-ground garden rows, developing an understanding of managing a budget through hands-on calculation of grocery store prices, starting seeds in a controlled and uncontrolled environment and managing pests with organically produced methods. In the Project G.R.A.P.E. program participants are given a pre-assessment as well as a post-assessment in order to gauge the level of understanding of gardening concepts. Some of the questions asked on these pre/post assessments include some of the following topics: children in Georgia experiencing hunger, methods of gardening, types of pollinators, effects of climate on agriculture and the carbon cycle. Attaining the participants’ level of understanding allows our program to develop a peer-to-peer learning environment.

Total Project Budget: 12,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): $3,500

Project Duration: March 2024 – May 2026
Geographical Area Served: DeKalb County, Georgia
Age Group To Be Served: 10 years of age to 18 years of age

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mr.
Contact First Name: Eric
Contact Last Name: Williams
Contact Title: Education Specialist
Contact Phone: 5712266995
Contact Email: eric@ebllcinc.com

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Easton Banks Learning & Life Center, Inc.
