Project Title: Youth Leadership Advisory Board Program
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
We are requesting funding to support and continue the work we are doing with our Youth Leadership Advisory Board Program (YLAB). There is a tremendous opportunity to engage young people through service-learning and community-based programming like the YLAB Program. Young people need to have a sense of belonging and a sense of purpose. Education ought to be student-centered, authentic, engaging, incorporating multiple intelligences, motivating, generating self-esteem, and intrinsic motivation. The current policy driving our system of education does not allow for this form of learning. By working with teachers, parents, business leaders and the community, we have an opportunity to strengthen relationships between youth and adults and connect them to their communities. We also have a unique opportunity to ensure youth decision-making within the organization by having them identify and define issues, share their concerns, and develop plans and strategies that would benefit the community-at-large, especially by promoting racial harmony and cross-cultural understanding through diversity, equity, and inclusivity.<\/p>\n
