(Growing Readily Available Produce Everywhere)
Project Description:

Our program, Project G.R.A.P.E., provides easy-to-understand education for our youth participants to allow them to connect biology, ecology and economic topics to the everyday functions of adult life. The purpose of the Project G.R.A.P.E. program is to teach youth in local communities how to grow produce in their community, how to live a well sustained life (educationally, physically and emotionally), and how to become a dedicated community member through leadership and volunteerism. In 2020, COVID exacerbated the hunger crisis that DeKalb County already faced. According to the United States Department of Agriculture, many parts of southern and eastern DeKalb County are considered urban areas that have limited access to high-quality, fresh food. Knowing this, it makes it extremely hard for our community to have inexpensive organic food options. Having limited to no access to organic food negatively impacts the health of families living in low-income communities which can inevitably affect the overall function of the household (i.e. increased hospital visits, heightened financial burdens).
As of now, there are over 84,000 individuals experiencing hunger at a constant rate with 52% of the entire population being below the poverty line. With our Project G.R.A.P.E. program we not only educate youth in creating sustainable lives, but we also create community focused gardens in neighborhoods that don’t have the knowledge or space to grow at home. As of today, we’ve been able to donate over 200 pounds of produce to families experiencing hunger and/or food insecurity.

Total Project Budget: 8,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): 4,500

Project Duration: March 2024 – May 2025
Geographical Area Served: DeKalb County, Georgia
Age Group To Be Served: 10 years of age to 18 years of age

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mr.
Contact First Name: Eric
Contact Last Name: Williams
Contact Title: Education Specialist
Contact Phone: 5712266995
Contact Email: eric@ebllcinc.com

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Easton Banks Learning & Life Center, Inc.
