In 2017, the Taylor family received the devasting news that their daughter, Lily, had leukemia. She was only 3 years old and unaware of the journey she was about to embark on. Her road to recovery included 2 \u00bd years of treatment. Her hair fell out, her liver failed, she lost hearing in one ear. And she endured all that pain and sickness, isolated and alone, due to the weakened state of her immune system. No more trips to the park or playdates with school friends. Lily\u2019s world, and that of her parents, shrunk to the size of their home. The loneliness of that journey is what became the foundation of our nonprofit, Lily\u2019s Pad.<\/p>\n
We have built a facility in Arizona that has been custom designed to meet the needs of an immunocompromised child. Our goal is to lessen the isolation and quarantine that these children experience by providing them with a safe place to play and socialize. Lily\u2019s Pad is an innovative facility that combines design elements with cleaning protocol to create a space that is as clean as a hospital clinic. From closely monitored air quality to consistent cleaning practices, Lily\u2019s Pad will provide a low-risk option for families to bring medically fragile children to play. <\/p>\n
Project \u201cPlay Pal\u201d is the funding source to keep play free for our families. We do not wish to add any additional expenses to their financial burden, and we want to be certain that our facility can be utilized by children of every income level. Lily\u2019s Pad hopes to be a missing piece in the holistic approach to the healing of children through the gift of play. <\/p>\n
