Project Title: Modus Drive: removing transportation barriers for young adults and families with children
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Modus removes barriers through innovative transportation solutions, education, and advocacy. Transportation is often cited as the number one barrier for individuals trying to access medical appointments and social services. In Tulsa, roughly 20% of the population (upward of 80,000 people) cannot access the health services they need due to inadequate transportation options in the area. Lack of transportation is a critical need because, ultimately, this problem leads to decreased physical and mental health, poorer education, and lower employment rates than those with reliable transportation. By improving transportation equity in our community, we are improving health equity and family stability.<\/p>\n
Modus is directly working to improve the health and wellness of children. For youth under the age of 18, Modus is the only curb-to-curb transportation option available to them because other national rideshare programs, like Uber and Lyft, are not available for individuals under 18. Modus allows anyone over the age of 13 to ride with Modus without an adult present. We also have car seats available upon request, making Modus the best option for families with small children. Last year, Modus has provided nearly 5,000 rides to 358 children, teens, and young adults (see breakdown below).<\/p>\n

Every year since Modus began, we have experienced tremendous program growth, especially with our flagship program Modus Drive. Last year alone, the program provided 72% more rides compared to the year before. Our staff consists of only four full-time employees, eight part-time drivers, and 25 volunteers. With only three vehicles in the fleet, drivers often use their own cars to provide rides.<\/p>\n
