Project Title: Mighty Writers Whole Child and SEL Afterschool Programs for Lifelong Success.
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Mighty Writers (MW) requests $10,000 in program support to implement our Whole Child and SEL Afterschool Programs, which includes
\nAfterschool Academy (ages 8-14), a daily program (3-6 pm) from Mon-Fri, for grades 3-8, provides homework help and snacks and teaches 25 writing units to develop writing skills. Each week, various SEL activities are offered for students to build self-awareness, compassion, and community building. <\/p>\n
College and Career Prep (ages 15-17), Workshops focus on critical thinking and persuasive writing skills to prepare teens for high school success, college readiness, SAT preparation, and college campus tours.<\/p>\n
Literary art workshops (ages 7-17), Workshops equip, educate and inspire students to write more through art-integrated projects to foster creativity and inspiration. Students gain hands-on learning in music, visual arts, theater, dance, and literature. <\/p>\n
1:1 Mentorship (ages 8-17), students in grades 2 through 12 are paired with mentors to achieve academic goals. Students meet for 4 hours per month for six months. <\/p>\n
Mighty Toddlers (ages 3-7); high-quality early childhood literacy workshop including storytime, letter recognition, story acting, book creation and family engagement activities. <\/p>\n
Mindfulness Workshops (ages 7-17): SEL-integrated, trauma-informed workshops to help kids and youth effectuate concepts like gratitude, compassion, and respect through mindfulness activities such as yoga-based movements, meditation, journaling, arts, and storytelling. <\/p>\n
Approximately 85% of our students are BIPOC from low-income, marginalized areas. Funding will help us teach 4,500 underserved kids ages 3-17 across eight writing studios in PA and NJ. All our programs are designed to increase literacy proficiencies through innovative and interdisciplinary curricula to improve writing skills, stimulate critical thinking, and foster creativity to help students grow cognitively, socially and emotionally.
\nWe aim to equip students with literacy tools to improve their academics, graduate high school, and enroll in college to transform their lives and reach their full potential. <\/p>\n
