Our goal is to prepare each youth for an effective, productive, and successful life in the community. We have found that often when youth leave our programs and return to the community, they are desperately in need of continued support so they can experience long-term success.

The Aftercare program began in 2017 and is offered to youth 16 and older who have participated in any of our programs. Youth in Aftercare work with Independent Living staff to hone skills necessary to live successfully on their own, such as meal planning, budgeting, interviewing for jobs, accessing medical care, finding safe and affordable housing, and more.

We are starting a fund to help us provide necessities like groceries, gas or other transportation assistance (such as helping to purchase a bicycle, buy a bus pass, or pay for a driver’s education course), rent assistance, clothing (general needs and clothing needed for jobs like work uniforms or shoes), and household goods to the youth taking part in Aftercare.

We would love to have funds available to immediately help the youth who come to us in crisis. Through asks on our social media, we have been able to source pots & pans, furniture, clothing, and bicycles for a few of our previous youth participants. However, it is our deep desire that we have a pool of funds available so when a youth comes to us asking for help, we can give that help as immediately as possible, and not wait on responses from a Facebook post.

When a youth who has been in our programs comes to us needing support, with this funding, we will be able to help them make good choices and continue their path to becoming responsible and productive members of the community.

Total Project Budget: $15,000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Vanderbugh Community Foundation (potential), individual donors

Project Duration: 2024 (Jan – December)
Geographical Area Served: Southwestern Indiana
Age Group To Be Served: 16 – 20

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mrs.
Contact First Name: Allison
Contact Last Name: Harrison
Contact Title: Grants Manager
Contact Phone: 706-505-7631
Contact Email: aharrison@umyh.com

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: The United Methodist Youth Home Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: UMYH Mailing Address: 2521 N.
