Project Title: New Laptops for Cristo Rey Atlanta\u2019s Science and Technology Lab
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
Cristo Rey Atlanta graciously seeks $10,000 toward the purchase of 100 new Dell Laptops Model 5520 for its science and technology lab. Each laptop is approximately $1,500.<\/p>\n
(CRA) is a Catholic learning community that educates young people with limited economic means, of any faith or creed, to become men and women for and with others. Through a rigorous college preparatory curriculum, integrated with a relevant work study experience, students graduate prepared for college and life. In alignment with the Hermanowski Family Foundation\u2019s mission to improve and transform the lives of children and young adults, CRA aims to provide students with the necessary tools to succeed and to achieve their full potential. CRA has a student population of 484, serving over 1,000 high school students since inception in 2014. <\/p>\n
CRA students are currently using older laptop models that are at end-of-life stages, operating on outdated technology that no longer supports the level of function they need to operate software programs (e.g., Adobe Photoshop or Certiport Compass, an exam delivery software). This project will impact each of the students CRA serves. CRA IT Director, Shundra Davis, Computer Science Instructor and Department Chair, Alean Cook, and Computer Science Instructor, Andrea Pendergraph, will purchase the laptops and install software. <\/p>\n
At CRA, the median household income for all of our students is $35,000 for a family of four and 99% of all students are people of color. With 100% of CRA\u2019s student body low-income, they have limited educational options. These students are all on scholarship. With CRA\u2019s business model allowing students to receive a quality private Catholic education for minimal cost by working five days each month in an entry-level job, students are breaking generational socio-economic barriers.<\/p>\n
