VersAbility\u2019s Early Prevention and Intervention for Children Program (EPIC) has been assisting children with developmental delays and their families to reach each developmental milestone. Infancy and early childhood are critical times in human development. Children under the age of 3 with disabilities need specialized therapies to prepare them for success in school, work, and life. Failure to provide these supports comes at a cost to each child, their family, and the community. Through our EPIC program, nearly 700 children with disabilities receive tailored therapies annually, maximizing their abilities and future potential. VersAbility\u2019s EPIC program provides free developmental screenings for any child under the age of 3 living in Hampton and Newport News. VersAbility serves each referral, regardless of budget constraints or the family\u2019s ability to pay. These children have developmental delays, atypical development, and\/or handicapping conditions, some of these children are suffering from abuse and neglect, babies born as early as 23 weeks gestation, babies with birth injuries, brain injuries, babies with neurological difficulties, autism, speech delay, babies exposed prenatally to drugs, babies who are deaf, blind, and multi-disabled. Concurrently many of the children with disabilities we serve live in poverty. VersAbility plans to offer funds to families of disabled children for needed items such as, diapers, formula, emergency clothing, in times of need. This will allow parents of disabled children anonymity without introduction to another agency.<\/p>\n
