Project Title: Recreation Transportation Bus

The Charles Strong Recreation located at Luxora is a haven for the youth in the community to play sports and be involved in after-school activities. The center is now operating our annual summer enrichment program. Being physically active brings many benefits to the children and the community. There are many long-term benefits to participating in sports. In an era of increased concern regarding childhood obesity, playing sports significantly and positively affects children\u2019s weight, provides stronger muscles, and increases cardiovascular endurance (Gellner, 2018). Other benefits include developing sportsmanship, promoting an active lifestyle, and learning time management skills (Five Reasons Why…, n.d.). <\/p>\n
The project for which we seek funding is to provide safe transportation for our youth. We presently have a 1991 Chevrolet 14-passenger bus. The bus has well over 300,000 miles and has transported the area\u2019s children and adults on hundreds of trips. Along with transporting children to sporting events, we have used it for field trips to Manila, Jonesboro, and Memphis. The bus has no air conditioning, and the heater is failing. We are looking to get at least a 14-passenger van to provide our youth with a safe mode of transportation to and from the different activities. <\/p>\n
