The majority of Jacob\u2019s Heart children come from low-income homes with high levels of unmet, basic needs. Families struggle with regular access to emotional, social, and grief support activities and resources due to lack of transportation, work obligations, and access to affordable child care. Inequitable access to bicultural therapists with the skill and expertise needed to effectively address grief in children remains a challenge throughout the U.S.. <\/p>\n<p>Funding will help ensure that all eligible families are aware of and can access our free mental, emotional, and social support services and team of trained, caring counselors and clinicians &#8211; providing a foundation of emotional stability.<br \/>\nIndividual Crisis Counseling and Psychotherapy &#8211; 200 sessions with bicultural psychotherapists, family support specialists, and interns with expertise in healing complex grief and trauma &#8211; Ongoing<br \/>\nSupport Groups &#8211; 12 thematic support groups for parents expand to include concurrent interventions and healing activities for siblings &#8211; Monthly<br \/>\nCamp Heart + Hands and Forever Loved Grief Retreat &#8211; Summer and fall weekend retreats for families to share the joy and healing elements of being outdoors, and culturally relevant events to restore safety, security, and a sense of community.<br \/>\nFamily Day Events &#8211; facilitated events (e.g. Dia De Los Muertos and candle lighting) throughout the year bring families together despite language differences and cultural differences to experience joy while their emotions are safely supported.<br \/>\nTeen Group &#8211; a safe inclusive space that fosters social connection, personal growth, and emotional resilience for young adults. Curriculum topics promote healthy lifestyles, habits, and attitudes supported by therapy, coaching, and counseling available on site. &#8211; Monthly<br \/>\nArt from the Heart &#8211; free, facilitated art sessions that combine emotional support and the creative process to promote socialization, connection, and healing &#8211; Quarterly<\/p>\n<p>Total Project Budget: $228,960<\/p>\n<p>Other Funding <br \/>\nSources For The Project (Committed &amp; Potential): 1. The majority of Jacob\u2019s Heart services are provided through generous donors and support from our community<\/p>\n<p>Project Duration: At Jacob\u2019s Heart, mental and emotional health is our top priority, as the sorrow that accompanies pediatric cancer is complex; families are not only grieving the loss of health, but also the loss of childhood. We offer deep psychosocial support, crisis counseling, and connection seven days a week, year round, free of charge.
