Project Title: Heart F.E.L.T. (Feeding Empty Little Tummies)

The Ladies of Charity Calvert County Food Pantry Heart F.E.L.T. (Feeding Empty Little Tummies) program was designed to help improve the lives of children by providing nutrients essential to be able to succeed in school and reach their full potential. \u201cStudies show that children from homes that lack consistent access to food are more likely to experience developmental impairments in areas like language, motor skills, and behavior.\u201d (FeedingAmerica.org) We provide weekend meals for elementary and middle school students whose families are on assistance. The initials and grades of the children in need are supplied by the school\u2019s counselors. The Ladies of Charity Calvert County Food Pantry will then deliver separate backpacks each week to the schools containing food for seven meals for each child listed to feed them over the weekends; three dinners, two breakfasts and two lunches plus snacks. Extra meals are supplied for holiday weekends. The empty backpacks are picked up at the beginning of the next week and refilled. The cost for the food is approximately $18-25 per week per child, annual costs are over $14,000. The program runs weekly through the school year and over the summer. Funds for this project are obtained through local donations. With the rising costs of food it has become more challenging to provide these meals and we appreciate the ability to partner with the Hermanowski foundation to continue the program.<\/p>\n
