Established in 1991, the Children\u2019s Advocacy Center of Hamilton County (CAC) serves children (birth-18 years old) affected by alleged child abuse or neglect by offering help, hope, and healing. <\/p>\n
The CAC meets its mission by facilitating a comprehensive and trauma-focused response to child abuse which entails:<\/p>\n
1.) Coordinating the multi-disciplinary team approach to child abuse investigations;
\n2.) Providing Intervention Services including forensic interviews, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), family advocacy, and medical exams;
\n3.) Providing prevention education to children and adults; and,
\n4.) Promoting community advocacy and public awareness. All services at the CAC are offered at no charge to clients, and their families, for as long as necessary.<\/p>\n
Yet, the effects of abuse do not have to be permanent. Services at the CAC can help abuse survivors overcome challenges, address symptoms, and break this cycle of generational abuse.<\/p>\n
The CAC envisions a community with resilient children who live lives safe from violence and abuse. Data states that one in ten children will be victimized before their 18th birthday. Multiple studies state that early intervention with children exposed to trauma reduces the risk of expensive problematic behaviors later in life, including school failure, mental health issues, suicide attempts, teen pregnancy, impaired work performance, and substance abuse.<\/p>\n
The number of clients at the CAC has increased over the years, and the severity of client issues surrounding abuse has become more complex. <\/p>\n
Funding will enable the CAC to enhance the Clinical and Intervention Programs by helping to fund trauma-focused trainings for therapists, specialized trainings for Forensic Interviewers, and programming costs. The outcomes of this funding include an increase in the number of children served at the CAC in one fiscal year.\n<\/p>\n
