For children in preschool, the emphasis is school readiness which is addressed by stimulating learning experiences in all developmental areas of intellectual, social, emotional, and physical skills.  Educational activities are designed to develop children\u2019s confidences for success and build positive feelings toward learning. Social emotional activities increasing the child\u2019s ability to build trust, foster independence, learn self-control, and develop a respect for the feelings and rights of others.<\/p>\n<p>The school age program serves at-risk, disadvantaged youth during afterschool, school \/ summer. FFCDC provides time for students to focus on school assigned homework and utilizes an active tutoring\/mentoring program. Our Second Step is a violence prevention curriculum designed to help children learn pro-social skills and reduce impulsive \/ aggressive behavior. Activities are designed to improve a students\u2019 ability to empathize with others, apply problem-solving strategy to social conflicts and to use anger \u2013 reduction techniques. Students are also introduced to the arts, participate in organized team games, obstacle courses, dance programs, yoga, golf lessons, basketball skills camps gardening and aerobics. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, children are provided healthy snacks and a prepared hot lunch or dinner daily which, for many, these meals are the most balanced and nutritious food they eat.  FFCDC\u2019s Children\u2019s Clinic, a first in a childcare setting in the state of Florida, is staffed five days a week by a nurse and provides medically supervised respite care for a child with a short-term illness. Additional benefits are a health and wellness program, which includes vision, hearing, dental, and physical developmental screenings. Mental health counseling, via a trained mental health professional, is also provided to both children and parents.
