The SYC is owned by the Salesian Sisters, and is in partnership with Boys & Girls Club(they provide staffing, we provide everything else.) Since it opened in 1995, the SYC has daily activities of education, mentoring, team activities such as sports, and arts and crafts. It allows kids the opportunity to get the help and assistance they need while still having fun. There is a large emphasis on the kids education and mentoring to get them back where they need to be on all levels. Literacy, which was a struggle for many children in the past, took a nosedive in the past two years due to Covid and lack of in person instruction. The SYC Literacy Program is at the top of the list of needs. Around 168 children attend the Salesian Youth Center. Around 77% of the children, ages 5 to 18, are from single parent households. Most come from families with incomes below $15,000. 82% that attended are African American, 12% are hispanic, and 6% are other. 91% are from Tampa Heights, with 9% coming from an area approximately 10 miles away. 59% are female and the rest are male. Instructors for the Literacy Program are hired by the Salesian Sisters as Boys & Girls Club has limited staffing. We ask for your help in keeping the Literacy program going. Many kids have excelled over the years and have increased their reading levels, some up to two grades. We ask for your assistance in helping the children who need it most. As the Sisters take a vow of poverty, the SYC relies on community support.

Total Project Budget: 30000

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential):

Project Duration: ongoing
Geographical Area Served: Tampa Heights
Age Group To Be Served: 5 to 18 years

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.): Mrs.
Contact First Name: Theresa
Contact Last Name: Anderson
Contact Title: Director of Development
Contact Phone: 8132053195
Contact Email: tandersondev@hotmail.com

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Salesian Youth Center Legal Name (if Different): Salesian Sisters of Tampa Inc. d/b/a Salesian Youth Center Also Known As: Mailing Address: 315 W Columbus Dr. City: Tampa State: Florida Postal Code: 33602 Main Phone: 8132260010 Main Fax: 8132527781 Organization Website: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Salesian-Youth-Center/116321428396627 Employer ID Number: 263500304 Organization Tax […]

[3

post-1323","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-grants
["GET
