Project Title: LifeScape Pathways to Life
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
LifeScape offers a broad range of services, supports, and expertise to help people with mild to significant disabilities reach their fullest potential in all aspects of their lives. We are requesting assistance for new curriculum in our Pathways to Life program. Total number of people supported in Pathways is 60 students (30 under 14 years of age, 30 students in the 14-21 age group). Our goal is to increase the number of students supported to 130 total.<\/p>\n
The curriculum places a strong emphasis on the development of Pre-Employment Transition Services such as Job Exploration Counseling, work-based learning experiences in an integrated environment, and instruction in self-advocacy. Students are also taught workforce readiness skills including communication, networking, and professionalism.<\/p>\n
Students at Pathways to Life participate in a variety of on and off campus learning experiences to promote their Independence. Pathways to Life Specialty School was designed to assist young adults develop the necessary skills to prepare them for the transitions to home, community, work, and volunteerism upon completion of their high school program.<\/p>\n
The school features a year-round program, along with a variety of learning environments designed to enhance skills related to students\u2019 goals. Classrooms include a fully accessible kitchen and laundry area, as well as a studio apartment.<\/p>\n
Students are given opportunities to participate in volunteering experiences and hands on training to prepare them for either joining the workforce, securing a permanent volunteer job or both! Pathways to Life Specialty School has a comprehensive job coaching program to promote students\u2019 acquisition of skills to allow them to develop the necessary skills to secure and maintain a job. <\/p>\n
Students will also work on developing their social and communication skills to assist them in knowing how to access community resources such as banking, transportation, social groups, shopping, fitness activities, and more.\n<\/p>\n
