Project Title: Scouting for the Blind\/Visually Impaired
\nProject Description:<\/p>\n
For more than 100 years, Scouting has helped build future leaders by combining educational activities and lifelong values with fun and adventure in the outdoors as well as in classroom settings. The Chester County Council (\u201cCouncil\u201d) is dedicated to developing leaders of character by preparing young men and women for life. It is our mission \u201cTo prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling the values of the Scout Oath and Law.\u201d As Council strives to reach more youth in the Chester County region with our programs, a priority is recruiting for and developing new Scouting units specifically for youth with special needs, specifically the blind\/visually impaired. A grant from The Charles and Joan Hermanowski Family Foundation would support program supplies and equipment necessary to adapt both indoor and outdoor Scouting activities to the specific needs of blind\/visually impaired Scouts. Further, funding will support efforts to promote special needs Scout units and recruit new youth participants as well as qualified adult leaders. Scout units tailored to blind\/visually impaired youth will provide all the traditional benefits of the Scouting programs, with appropriate adaptations for participants, while having fun and building confidence through skill-based activities. Ultimately, this program will enhance and further Council\u2019s vision to serve EVERY eligible youth in Chester County through the Scouting family of programs. Across the country and in our own community, Scouting remains one of the most valuable investments we can make to support our youth today so that they can become the leaders we will turn to tomorrow and to be prepared for life.<\/p>\n
