This interactive and transformational presentation is devoted to giving students an opportunity to learn about mental illness through an informative presentation, short videos, and personal testimonies.
A trained two-person team, one being an individual who shares their own journey with a diagnosable mental health condition, delivers the program. Students learn about symptoms and indicators of mental illness and are given resources aimed at helping themselves, their friends, or family members who may be in need of support.
At the conclusion of the presentation, students are given resource cards with valuable phone numbers and websites of mental health agencies and youth support services, along with a list of symptoms/warning signs of mental illness. Postcards are mailed home to parents informing them about the presentation.
Why Ending the Silence is Needed
• In Pain in the Nation, a study by the Well-Being Trust and Trust for America’s Health, it was found that “In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic created new, almost inconceivable heights of trauma, grief, stress, and isolation for many Americans…and that younger age groups have had higher rates of reported anxiety or depression symptoms between April 2020 and March 2021 than groups 70+ in age.”

• According to California Senate Bill 224, due to go into effect within two years, “Each school district, county office of education, state special school, and charter school that offers one or more courses in health education to pupils in middle school or high school shall include in those courses instruction in mental health that meets the requirements of this article.” Requirements include promoting mental health wellness and protective factors, ability to identify warning signs, and how to find assistance.

We plan to bring ETS to 3500 students during the 2022/2023 academic year.

Total Project Budget: $61,226

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential): Secured (one year) KLA Foundation ($25,000) Santa Clara County Board of Supervisors $17,500 Wholefoods $1200 Costco $500 Pending Looking Out Foundation $5,000 Silicon Valley Association of Realtors $5,000 Henry Bull Foundation $5,000 R.C.
