It is organized around the belief that theatre belongs to all people and is designed to bring The Classical Theatre of Harlem’s successful brand of theatre to young audiences through exploration of the creative process and positive social engagement. Project Classics provides the space for artistic exploration and personal development that allows students to connect with each other, their community at large, and weave themselves into the varied, complex cultural tapestry of New York City. This multifaceted program brings productive, positive paths to the forefront, encourages students to expand their ideas of social responsibility, enhances cultural literacy, and develops life skills that are valuable beyond the artistic field.

The majority of schools in under-served/ low-income communities have limited resources to pay for art teachers and, more often than not, arts education is left to overburdened teachers without the formal training to implement such programs effectively. Dance is relegated as a unit in Physical Education. Theatre is often left to classroom teachers in elementary schools or to the Language Arts teachers in middle and high schools. And music and art teachers employed by the Department of Education are often split between several schools.

CTH works closely with schools and community-based organizations to create FREE in school and out of school time programming for grades K to12 to implement various arts education residencies.

Our team of professional artists, with experience across all theatre disciplines, guides the student participants in their discovery. The artistic processes shared by all arts disciplines include creating, performing, producing, presenting, responding, and connecting. These processes are not just relegated to the arts — it is about giving students the life and academic skills they need to think critically, both independently and collaboratively.

Total Project Budget:

Other Funding
Sources For The Project (Committed & Potential):

Project Duration:
Geographical Area Served:
Age Group To Be Served:

Contact Information

Contact Prefix (Mr,Mrs etc.):
Contact First Name:
Contact Last Name:
Contact Title:
Contact Phone:
Contact Email:

Hermanowski Family Foundation Initial Request Form Organization Name: Classical Theatre of Harlem Legal Name (if Different): Also Known As: Mailing Address: 8 West 126th Street City: New York State: NY Postal Code: 10026 Main Phone: 3476886304 Main Fax: Organization Website: www.cthnyc.org Employer ID Number: 13-4046782 Organization Tax Status: 501c3 Proposal Information Today’s Date: March 15, […]

[3

post-1171","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-grants
["GET
