An American Gold Star Christmas brings hope and help to children who have lost a parent in service to our nation. For these children, Christmas can make that loss feel especially heavy. There is one less person watching them open presents on Christmas morning, one less name written on a gift tag, and one person they would give anything to have back.<\/p>\n
The funeral may be over, another year may have passed, and the rest of the world may have moved forward, but that child is still growing up without their parent.<\/p>\n
Believe With Me cannot change that loss, but through An American Gold Star Christmas, we can make sure these children know they have not been forgotten.<\/p>\n
Each year, approximately 3,000 Gold Star children send us their individual Christmas wish lists. Volunteers shop from each child\u2019s list, wrap their gifts personally, and prepare a Santa sack with the things they asked for, a Bible, devotional, handwritten note, and a Polaroid of the smiling volunteers who wrapped their gifts.<\/p>\n
These details matter. We want each child to know someone learned their name, learned about the parent they lost, and cared enough to show up for them at Christmas. <\/p>\n
At Believe With Me, we call this \u201cthe heart behind the star.\u201d The Gold Star in our logo represents a family whose loved one gave their life in service to our nation, and the red heart behind it represents the hearts of grateful Americans who step forward to bring hope and help to the family left behind. <\/p>\n
A $10,000 grant from the Hermanowski Family Foundation would bring Christmas to 100 Gold Star children from birth through age 21. One hundred children would wake up on Christmas morning to gifts chosen specifically for them and a tangible reminder that, even though the world may have moved forward, there are still people who remember.<\/p>\n
